Detroit, MI – August 4, 2025 – Cabaret 313 Co-Founder and Artistic Director Allan Nachman has called Season 13 “our best season yet!” This milestone season will celebrate the artists and moments that have shaped the story of Cabaret 313 while welcoming the bold new voices that will define its future.
Friends and supporters will launch Season 13 in style with a lively soirée celebrating the timeless genius of Fats Waller. From classics like Honeysuckle Rose and Ain’t Misbehavin’ to Jitterbug Waltz, Waller’s unforgettable blend of wit, swing, and soul continues to captivate. Though he passed in 1943, his legacy will be joyfully brought to life by Detroit’s own Marion Hayden and Alvin Waddles—channeling his spirit with authenticity, heart, and humor.
Marion Hayden, recipient of the 2025 Kresge Eminent Artist Award, is one of the country’s leading jazz bassists and a founding member of the Grammy-nominated group Straight Ahead. She teaches at the University of Michigan and Oakland University.
Alvin Waddles is a celebrated pianist, vocalist, and music director known for his work in jazz and musical theater. A fixture in Detroit’s arts scene, he has performed in Ain’t Misbehavin’, Too Hot to Handel, and with the Detroit Opera, earning honors such as the Spirit of Detroit Award.
Audiences can look forward to the return of Cabaret 313 favorites like Brandon Victor Dixon and John Pizzarelli—alongside exciting debuts from stars like Melissa Errico and rising talents from Detroit Opera’s Resident Artist Program, eager to showcase their pop chops. As always, each show will feature Cabaret’s signature two-performance format at 6:30 PM and 8:45 PM, hosted at iconic downtown Detroit venues including The Cube at the DSO, the Garden Theater, and the Black Box at Detroit Opera.
